The wide valley of Benasque is one of the most beautiful places in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Situated east of Aragon, the valley is located amongst the valley of Aran on the right and the valley of Gistain on the left.

ParqueIt features great geological diversity : 13 glaciers, the last of the Pyrenees, 95 lakes, a variety of waterfalls, huge forests, endless valleys, crystal water rivers and wild mountains, along with a great mix of animal and vegetal species. In 1994, The Natural Park of Posets Maladeta was created. It is a natural area full of beautiful landscapes and surrounded by the main concentration of peaks of more than 9.900 feet in the Pyrenees, among which stands the well-known Aneto peak (11168 feet high).

Benasque is the county town that gives the valley its name. it is situated 3.784 feet high, on the left bank of river Esera. Its historic centre consists in buildings, places and corners that leave a charming mountain atmosphere. It also features some nice buildings of architectural interest, among which you can find the “Palace of the earls of Ribagorza”, a 16th century work; “Casa de Marcial Río”, “Casa Faure”, “Casa Juste”, and the Romanesque, 13th century Church of Santa Maria.

In the immediate surroundings of Benasque, you will find Cerler, regarded as the highest village in the Aragonese Pyrenees as it is 5,052 feet high, and Anciles, a lovely and small village featuring some traditional family houses like the 16th and 17th century“Casa Suprián” and “Casa Barrau”, the lattest boasting a beautiful tower.

The valley is located within the county Ribagorza, crossed by the rivers Ésera and Noguera Ribagorzana, ideal for practicing all kinds of adventure sports.

ParqueThe Valley of Benasque gives you the chance to have a very close relationship with nature, giving its visitors the opportunity to enjoy a varied number of activities in a privileged natural atmosphere, but also to discover the way of life and the character of its inhabitants, just by walking in the streets of the surrounding villages.

The Valley of Benasque is full of examples of Lombard Romanesque art. You will have the chance to come and know it if you go through the so-called “Route of the Solano”. It will take you to the villages of Eresue, Ramastue, Liri, Arasan and Urmella, following a quiet tarred road for cars or bikes. To get there, you have to take the road that goes from Benasque to Graus, and once you have passed Eriste and the diversion to the sanctuary of Guayente, some road signs will show the way to follow after crossing the primitive bridge.
It is an interesting route as far as wildlife, landscapes and monuments are concerned, you´d rather do it in summer and autumn because it is one of the sunniest places of the valley and the views are very impressive.

ParqueOther villages in the surroundings of Benasque are worth visiting : the massif of the Turbon, Roda de Isabena´s cathedral, the monasteries of Obarra, Alaon and Pano, as well as the villages of Benabarre, Bonansa and Graus.
Understanding the habits, the way of life, the architecture, the typical dishes, the dialects and the history of the valley is for sure a positive and unforgettable experience that will fascinate all the visitors who want to discover them.

The dramatic surroundings of the Valley of Benasque make it the ideal place to practice plenty of sports, especially adventure sports. In winter, enjoy alpine and cross-country skiing. In summer, the mountains and the rest of the facilities are full of possibilities to make you enjoy deeply this place of the Pyrenees.
